Chile's copper export revenues increased by 65% in February
Data released by the Central Bank of Chile on Monday showed that Chile, the world's number one copper exporter, saw a substantial increase in its copper export revenue in February, as international copper prices soared to their highest level in a decade.
Central Bank data showed that Chile’s February copper export revenue climbed 65% year-on-year to US$3.879 billion.
In February, copper prices exceeded US$9,000 per ton for the first time since 2011, as the global economy began to recover, boosting copper demand.
The sharp increase in copper exports drove Chile's exports in February to increase by 41% to 7.071 billion U.S. dollars, and recorded a trade surplus of 1.516 billion U.S. dollars.
Central bank data also showed that Chile's February imports rose 31% to $5.555 billion.
